Policy and research

The Policy and Research team support the BDA’s committees / national policy groups in developing policy and lobbying positions informed by evidence-based research. We carry out a large number of surveys and focus groups each year to ensure we are representative of member opinion.

NHS White Paper consultations

The Government published the White Paper, Equity and excellence: Liberating the NHS, on 12 July 2010. The BDA is discussing the proposals contained within the White Paper with parliamentarians and civil servants within the Department of Health.
Steele Implementation

One year on from the publication of the Steele Review, the BDA has published an article in BDA News discussing the progress of the implementation of Professor Steele's recommendations.
Local commissioning

In response to the varied experience throughout the country, the BDA commissioned a report into local commissioning of NHS dental services from an independent Working Group chaired by Professor Chris Drinkwater, President of the NHS Alliance. The report was launched on Tuesday 13 October 2009
Policy and Research Bulletin

The Policy and Research Bulletin is produced by the Research Unit seasonally. The Spring 2010 Bulletin includes articles on the Doctors' and Dentists' Review Body recommendations, Doncaster dental QOF, a BDA practice survey in Northern Ireland, policy developments in Scotland, and an update on the Steele Implementation Programme.
